Core. About “We forge the iron at the manor!”
The architecture project started 11 years ago, in a historical monument house – the Petre P. Carp manor, seized in 1949 and given back in the state of a ruin. The recovery of this property relied on finding ways of creative recycling, on a change of function, from a household to a study centre for traditional crafts and architecture.
Thus, the project “We forge the iron at the manor!” was generated, a title under which coexist a continuous blacksmith school, which is free of charge and destined to the locals from Ţibăneşti (Iași), a series of traditional crafts workshops and experimental techniques attached to the Carp manor and as well, a collection of items created in this context.
How can a deteriorated historical monument be used? How can it be reintegrated into community life? How does life there support itself? How do proximity problems get solved? Which are the heritage policies that can be deduced from this case study and can be absorbed and used in other situations as well? How can you create stable economic circuits? How do you educate the new generations regarding the issue of heritage? When, how and what are we saving? Why and for what? In which way? How do we communicate about craft and how do we retell for the new generations? These are some concerns about the restoration project led by architects Șerban Sturdza and Alexandra Mihailciuc.
